Dorchester House, High Street, Oxfordshire

EXISTING STREET VIEW

PROPOSED STREET VIEW

A really interesting brief for the mixed use redevelopment of an existing foodstore with flats above in a prominent historic high street location.

“Dorchester House” will provide high quality food retail, restaurant, leisure, hotel and urban living within a centrally located landmark site.

The proposed development form defines two podium level courtyards, creating outdoor space for the residents and an additional protected outdoor space with dining facilities for use during the summer months.

PROPOSED FIRST FLOOR PLAN

To ensure that the proposed elevations sensitively blend within their wider setting, the frontage draws on elements inspired by the local vernacular including clear references to the forms and rhythms found throughout the existing high street, such as double gables and Georgian Mansion House style elements.

To the rear of the site, where the historic context is less sensitive, the forms have remained traditional, but with the addition of more contemporary materials and detailing. The lift core to the rear forms a new modern clocktower which landmarks an important passage way connecting the car park with the town centre.
