At Anderson + Prescott, we’ve developed a carefully considered design vision for The Paddocks, a bespoke residential scheme set in the rural village of Shabbington, Oxfordshire.
The project reimagines the site of a former paddock as a small, community-focused development of five high-quality countryside homes.
Inspired by agricultural forms and the village’s rural character, the homes are arranged in a courtyard typology around a central green space and duck pond. This configuration fosters a sense of community while ensuring privacy, daylight, and strong visual and physical connections to nature.
Each dwelling has been individually designed using natural materials including red brick, white render, local stone, and black timber cladding. The architectural language borrows from traditional farm buildings, cart barns, hay lofts, and threshing barns, interpreted with a contemporary sensibility. Varying rooflines, asymmetric gables, and carefully detailed façades lend a sense of identity and place-making throughout.
The masterplan integrates ecological and wellbeing features, including a shared BBQ area, sauna pod, pedestrian routes, and an extensive green buffer. Private gardens and low-impact carports complete the picture of a sustainable, liveable rural enclave. All homes exceed national space standards and prioritise views, landscape, and lifestyle.
This project exemplifies A+P’s commitment to thoughtful rural development, blending contextual architecture with community-driven, design-led placemaking.
